FOR SPENDING 50 YEARS SORTING THROUGH THE DAKOTA WELCH PAPERS, PUBLISHING IT ON THE WEB TO SHARE THE HISTORY OF OUR TRUE NATION AND LEADERS WITH THE WORLD:

We deeply THANK:
Everett Cox

This Blog contains ALL the Alfred Burton Welch documents that survived his passing in 1945. Mr. Cox received the material in the late 1950’s. His Grandfather (A. B. Welch’s brother) had crammed notes, manuscripts, photos, clippings and small artifacts into old steamer trunks, loose and not indexed in any fashion. He spent the next 50 years sorting and eventually publishing this valuable information on the Dakota Welch Papers web site. He entered ALL his material with NO outside funding or compensation for his time, effort, and expenses, and posted it with very little editorial comment.

These documents may well be the last surviving treasures of written record yet undiscovered of knowledge of the “old ways” of Lakota, Dakota, Nakota spiritual traditional life-ways and beliefs. These papers provide valuable provenance to the 800 page manuscript about the John Grass dynasty by Angela Boleyn which was gifted to the Richard Grass family in the 1980’s, and which we hope to publish in the near future to encourage, educate, and re-unite in kinship relationship our spiritual traditional nation and people in a good way. (see Mission Statement and Goals at home page) At the Grass familys’ behest, the original manuscripts and supportive documents and photos are now safely housed in the archives and copyrighted by the South Dakota Historical Society. With all the necessary permissions in place, we soon hope to edit and publish these manuscripts in book and ebook formats for general readership worldwide. In a letter found in Chief Richard Grass papers – the following describes well what we hold in these writings, soon to be published:

“The People we are for so long have been depicted from white perspectives as “Wooden Indians”.

This book will not only correct historical fact, educate the world on the beauty of this culture and remind everyone what the People have suffered and survived,
but it will illustrate … the goodness and greatness of the race, and the sensitivity, integrity and courage of each individual.”
